J.Reneé Group, a Texas-based designer and manufacturer of women’s shoes, was seeking a way to improve their order to delivery turn-around times for their customers while juggling an ever increasing number of SKU's. Though their business was already performing well, they felt pressure to improve their inventory management and on-time delivery to meet customer demand. They knew if the company could gather more insights from their data, they could manage their high-demand item lead times on a larger scale.
Coby Sparks, the CIO/COO of J.Reneé Group, met Teknion at a Tableau User Group (TUG) event, a moment that inspired multiple conversations and meetings about the data challenges facing the company. After several conversations, Teknion presented a new way to structure data for their data warehouse. Although, Coby was skeptical, he read the 500+ page document Teknion provided as "light reading". Coby still laughs about it today, but that interaction set the stage for a new way of thinking and the start of a long term relationship with Teknion.

J.Reneé is a fashion house that runs four lines of designer shoes per year, and within each line, the length/width and colors of shoes are highly customized, generating more than 60 potential inventory SKUs per line. The complexity of the inventory combined with long lead times made the task of inventory management somewhat daunting.
J.Reneé, through Coby's leadership, were already Tableau users, but they realized they needed to restructure their data in order to set up a system that met their needs.
Alteryx Data Blending
Teknion introduced Coby to Alteryx, the preferred platform for prepping and blending data into a useable structure. The resulting Data Marts provide Tableau the data it needs to create insightful visualizations. The Data Mart Workflows (as seen below) were created to structure and prepare J.Reneé’s inventory data.
Once the data was properly structured, a series of inventory dashboards were created in Tableau. The dashboards included multi-SKU inventory levels, sell-through rates, and lead times. “Just in time” inventory and SKU rationalization data allowed J.Reneé to make more informed ordering decisions, when to avoid ordering slow sell through SKU’s, and which SKU’s to ramp up ordering based on popular demand.
Coby’s team were able to create a “Flash Report” using Tableau which, although containing a lot of data, provides the leadership team with the information in a mobile friendly, at-a-glance format that allows them to make real-time informed decisions. The flash report is automatically sent to the leadership team daily through the Tablet Subscription feature.
Reflecting on the project, Coby articulates the importance of this data to the team. “If the data allows J.Reneé to make one better purchase, on just one shoe style, the entire data restructure project will have paid for itself. By combining the strengths of Alteryx and Tableau platforms together, J.Reneé could finally create an inventory management system that meets the demands of their intense e-commerce world.
